The mix94.5 Kids Appeal with Telethon has cracked a new record of $580,000 with the help of the people of Western Australia, Woolworths and Telstra!
This year mix94.5’s Clairsy, Shane & Kymba championed the way for mix94.5 listeners to donate to buy over 40 vital pieces of equipment for Princess Margaret Hospital over a two week on air appeal between July 14 and July 25.
Across the two weeks, there was tin shaking on the streets of Perth, Clairsy abseiling at the WACA, the Dead Set Legends Sports Star Lunch, auction items, a Mega Quiz Night, Shane being a Woolworth’s check out person, plus donations at every Woolworths register helping to raise funds to purchase a huge list of equipment for PMH which included a $107,900 Nico Myriad machine for neurosurgery.
PMH Neurosurgeon Doctor Sharon Lee told Clairsy, Shane & Kymba that she was blown away when she heard that the Nico Myriad had been purchased. “I am amazed at the generosity of everybody in the state – from Mums and Dads to companies, the people walking by in the street that just walk in and donate…”.
Telstra joined the appeal this year by setting up a phone room to cope with the callers donating money in the foyer of their Stirling Street head office, with Telstra team members volunteering to wake up early to answer calls from donors.
Woolworth’s also enabled all 80+ stores across the state to be collection points for shoppers to donate at the register as they were paying for their groceries. Plus most stores carried out their own fundraising events to raise extra money.
