Rocky Bay’s Lady Lawley Cottage receives upgrade thanks to Lotterywest and Telethon

Rocky Bay’s hub for children and youth with disabilities or long-term illness will be getting a massive upgrade thanks to a $950,000 Lotterywest grant and equipment donated by Telethon.

Lady Lawley Cottage in Cottesloe, which provides community and therapy programs to people aged under 24, has received a Lotterywest grant for its refurbishment and expansion of specialist services.

The funding boost, announced on the International Day of People with Disability, will contribute to the fit-out costs including a sensory room, community gardens, a rehabilitation gym, and respite facilities.

Telethon donations have meant an accessible wheelchair merry go round and a Litegait 200P gait and balance training system to help young people with lower body rehabilitation will also be a part of the upgraded facility.

Disability Services Minister Don Punch said the grant would mean Lady Lawley Cottage would continue to be “a place where children and young people are supported to grow and develop”.

“This funding adds another chapter to the over a century of care provided to young people with disability and their families at Lady Lawley Cottage,” he said.

The service currently supports more than 230 children and their families.
